AGGREGATES

Afrimat is committed to providing quality aggregates products while protecting the environment.  Aggregates is primarily based in the commercial quarrying industry.  The group’s proprietary quarries – located in seven of South Africa’s provinces and in Namibia – supply the majority of raw material for the remaining Concrete Manufactured Products and Readymix divisions.

The division produces aggregates of a wide variety of sizes and technical specifications with products including stone, gravel and sand primarily for large-scale civil engineering and infrastructure projects.  It also provides professional contracted drilling and blasting services.

Afrimat continually ensures that stone reserves are adequate for the long-term needs of the group.

Activities

In addition to operating its own crushing plants, Aggregates also offers the following services:

Drilling and Blasting

The division operates a fleet of state-of-the-art hydraulic drill rigs and employs well-qualified and highly experienced blasters. It undertakes technically challenging contracts at competitive rates.

Earthmoving and Plant Hire

The division operates over 150 earthmoving machines such as hydraulic excavators, articulated dump trucks, front end and digger loaders, bulldozers and water trucks.

Crushing and Screening

Ultra modern track-mounted crushers and screens are complimented by jaw, gyratory and VSI crushers on transportable chassis. This allows for the optimisation and configuration of the mobile plant to offer a quick, cost effective solution to material supply requirements.

Transport

The modern fleet consists of 5m³, 6m³, 10m³, 17m³ and interlink tippers to transport bulk materials, mechanical equipment and machinery.  Sub-contracted transport services are used at times to ensure optimum service delivery.

Quality Assurance

The Quality-at-Source strategy of the Aggregates division is founded in the belief that quality assurance is the responsibility of each successive link in the production process.  In-process quality control is ensured by constant monitoring and evaluation - a computerised maintenance strategy is employed to ensure absolute reliability and minimum downtime.

A zero-tolerance approach is taken towards defects or deviations from quality standards and specifications.
