Quarry Manager
Minimum Qualifications / Experience / Requirements
- Relevant degree/diploma in Mechanical Engineering or relevant trade test (red seal) (essential).
- Minimum of 10 years of operational mining/quarrying experience, with at least 5 years in a management position and a proven track record as a 3.1 (a) legal appointee.
- Medically fit in terms of MHS Act.
- Valid Driver’s Licence (Code B).
- Proven experience in a senior operational role within the construction materials industry.
- Be competent and willing to fulfill the 2.13.2 and 3.1 (a) Legal appointment under the MHSA.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in quarry or mining operations, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of quarrying processes, equipment, and safety standards.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficient in production planning and cost control.
- Ability to work under pressure and make data-driven decisions.
- Financial acumen and experience managing budgets and KPIs.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required.
Duties and responsibilities (not limited to):
- Fulfill the 3.1(a) Legal Appointment under the MHSA.
- Oversee daily quarry operations including drilling, blasting, crushing, and haulage.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Develop and implement mine plans and production schedules.
- Manage budgets, assets, resource allocation and cost control.
- Lead and develop site teams, fostering a culture of safety and performance.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (e.g., DMPR) and ensure legal compliance and participate in DMPR inspections on site
- Participate in ASPASA and internal health and safety audits
- Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor and report on production metrics and site performance.
- Maximise opportunities through innovation to increase Afrimat competitiveness in the market
- Drive Afrimat’s continuous improvement plan
