Junior Quarry Foreman
Minimum Qualification / Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification (preferred) in Mining/Engineering and/or Trade Test (Red Seal).
- Competent A certificate (preferred)
- A valid unendorsed RSA driver’s license
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literate – MS Office proficient
- Legal/ Operational compliance knowledge e.g. Mine Health and Safety Act
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years supervisory experience in a quarry/mine.
- Sound product knowledge.
- Must be able to work under pressure.
- Ability to respond and solve operational concerns.
- Must have ability to do planning, lead, organise, control, and follow up.
Duties and responsibilities (not limited to):
- Production Oversight: Manage all aspects of mineral extraction, including drilling, blasting, crushing, screening, and stockpile maintenance.
- Performance & Efficiency: Ensure daily production meets weekly/monthly targets; resolve issues affecting output such as equipment failures or staffing gaps.
- Maintenance Coordination: Oversee upkeep of mobile and fixed plant machinery in line with safety and legal standards.
- Site Operations: Manage daily site activities, including opening/closing and maintaining site cleanliness.
- Regulatory Enforcement: Uphold the Mine Health and Safety Act and other DMPR/company regulations.
- Inspections and Reporting: Conduct statutory inspections, risk assessments, and maintain safety records.
- Incident Management: Investigate and report incidents, ensuring legal documentation is completed.
- Team Safety: Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and pre-start briefings.
- DMPR Liaison: Prepare for monthly inspections and ensure legal compliance.
- Environmental Oversight: Support adherence to the Environmental Management Program (EMP) under the MPRDA.
- Blasting Operations: Assist or oversee drilling and blasting, ensuring safety and legal compliance.
- Staff Supervision: Lead the quarry team, manage rosters, approve timesheets, and address performance issues.
- Mentorship: Promote a safety culture and ensure staff are trained and certified.
- Reporting & Budgeting: Submit operational reports and assist in managing costs and resources
